Wooden Toys 0-12 Months

Wooden Toys for Babies 0-12 Months

This collection brings together wooden toys for 0-12 months chosen for the way babies actually play in their first year: watching, grasping, mouthing, banging and dropping. You'll find the Custom Name Montessori Wooden Board, with movable parts little fingers can slide, turn and trace, and the Multi-Sensory Developmental Toys Kit, which invites sensory exploration and simple cause and effect. Together these wooden baby toys support fine motor skills, shape and color recognition, language and vocabulary, memory and focus, and early problem solving. Because the pieces are open-ended, several of them keep their appeal well beyond the first year, and some stay interesting for children up to around age 9. For more hands-on, independent play ideas, browse our Montessori toys.

Most of this play happens indoors, on a mat or in a lap, and it works best as one-to-one time with a parent, grandparent or caregiver: you name what your baby touches, they hear the words and try again. That shared back-and-forth is where language and confidence grow. A personalized name board also makes a thoughtful new-baby gift, christening present or first birthday gift, and it keeps meaning long after the busy stage passes. When your child starts to walk, sort and stack, move on to wooden toys for 1-3 years, or see everything suited to the first year in our 0-12 months collection.

Which wooden toys suit a baby under one year?

Look for pieces a baby can hold in two hands, drop and pick up again, such as the Multi-Sensory Developmental Toys Kit or a Montessori wooden board with movable parts. These support grasping, sensory exploration and cause and effect at this stage.

Are these toys a good first birthday gift?

Yes. A Custom Name Montessori Wooden Board is often chosen as a new-baby or first birthday gift because it is personalized and keeps its appeal as fine motor skills and vocabulary develop.
